Poetics of Relation

The Lab.Zone will take as its starting point Edouard Glissant’s Poetics of relation, thinking through and working with the aesthetics and politics proposed by his eponymous book. Focusing on transformative modes of history, notions of identity as constructed in relation rather than isolation, multi-directional memory, creolisation and translation there will be an emphasis of the basics: listening, looking, telling, re-telling, connecting, associating.

The Lab.Zone will also entail readings, discussions, screenings, workshops and a dialogue and exchange with a group of artists/students at Wits University in Johannesburg leading up to an exhibition. This includes a work visit to Johannesburg in the winter and a return visit to Geneva from the artists from South Africa in the spring.
